More than 20 passengers, including a baby, had to be helped from the train by police late on Wednesday night.
Police said the train was partially derailed at just after 11pm although Network Rail said this was not the case.
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said nobody was hurt in the incident and that officers helped passengers onto a replacement carriage.
Mud and other debris was cleared from the line which reopened around 4am on Thursday. Services are now running as normal.
Snow is causing disruption to a number of train services to and from Perth.

The weather is also continuing to take its toll on the roads while melting snow has caused flooding in some parts of Perthshire, including Auchterarder.
Police Scotland said there has been a number of minor collisions on the road overnight, with the A9 at Greenloaning, north of Dunblane, particularly bad.
An accident on the northbound carriageway at the Broxden roundabout is also causing delays.
The A9 at Drumochter also remains particularly treacherous with six inches of ice discovered on the road. A number of drivers were stranded on the A9 at Pitlochry overnight and part of the road is now closed. Motorists are advised not to travel.
The northbound carriageway is currently passable but the soutbound carriageway is not.
Elsewhere, the snow has moved on and been replaced by high winds.
The Tay and Forth Road Bridges are only open to cars as a result.
