Dundee University’s student soap Skint is looking for new talent from across the city.
The drama made by Dundee University Students Association TV (DusaTV) wants students and young people to get involved, whether in front of or behind the camera.
The programme, which is Scotland’s first student soap, scored a coup earlier this year when Hollywood actor and Dundee University rector Brian Cox filmed an appearance for its third episode.
Creator Jordan Dunbar (23), who recently graduated from the university, said the show had already involved students from Dundee’s other seats of learning.
He said, “It has become so much bigger and had so much more publicity with Brian Cox being in it that we wanted to open it up to any young people to showcase their talents.
“We’ve already had people from St Andrews and Abertay universities and Dundee College but we’re keen to hear from any young talent, particularly from the east of Scotland.”
Jordan said the soap was looking for actors, writers and even local bands to contribute.
He said, “The Dundee bands Make Sparks and Our Future Glory are both featured heavily on the soundtrack and it’s brought them a new audience, because there are young people from Tayside watching it.
The show, made with no funding or external support, has had over 50,000 views on DusaTV, and gained a further 15,000 after being released online last month.
Jordan said Skint’s third episode would be aired in October, with filming continuing throughout next month, hopefully with some new recruits on board.
He added, “When I applied to production companies, the first thing they asked was whether I had any practical experience. If it hadn’t been for working on DusaTV, I wouldn’t have.”
