STUDENT LEADERS warned yesterday that thousands of college students may not get the financial support they need.
NUS Scotland said there was an “extremely worrying” £2.2 million gap between requests from colleges for bursaries and childcare funding and the sum made available.
The Scottish Funding Council published the results of its redistribution of student support funds.
Requests for £8.2m were made but only £6m was available. Colleges in Fife and Tayside will receive £1.1m.
The sums to be distributed include £635,000 for Dundee College, £273,000 for Perth College and £196,000 for Carnegie College in Dunfermline, mostly for additional bursaries.
Adam Smith College in Kirkcaldy will have to relinquish £125,000.
