A Tayside town scooped first prize in the Beautiful Scotland Awards 2014 as Courier Country dominated the competition.
Coupar Angus Pride of Place group were awarded the coveted Rosebowl Trophy in the national competition organised by Keep Scotland Beautiful.
The winners were announced at Dundee Flower and Food Festival at Camperdown Park on Friday and there was cause for double celebration as Dundee took the City Trophy category.
Previously known as Beautiful Scotland in Bloom, the awards recognise the efforts of local community groups and individuals in maximising the appearance of their areas.
The Coupar Angus team was formed in May 2006 in response to community fears over the shabby appearance of the town.
Since then the group has made a huge difference to the local environment with projects including tree planting, a wildflower meadow and community bulb planting.
They have also provided the school with a productive vegetable garden as well as eye-catching floral displays.
Rona McKinnon, chairwoman of Coupar Angus Pride of Place, said: “These results are a true testament to the great community spirit and environmental responsibility displayed by Coupar Angus residents of all ages.
“The winning of the Rosebowl is truly a landmark event for the community as Pride of Place was formed only eight years ago and this award conveys progressive community involvement.
“On behalf of the Pride of Place committee, thanks must be expressed to all those who support our campaign.”
John Frater of Keep Scotland Beautiful, who hosted the ceremony, said: “I am delighted to present the awards and would like to congratulate all the winners on their success.
“Through floral enhancement, community participation and taking responsibility for tackling the criminal activity of littering and dog fouling, Beautiful Scotland groups make a massive difference to our country.”
A selection of this year’s winners will represent Scotland next year in the UK-wide RHS Britain in Bloom competition.
