Former East Dunbartonshire Council leader dies after assault

A FORMER council leader who died in hospital after being found lying in a busy city centre street was assaulted prior to his death, police have revealed.
Former East Dunbartonshire Council leader John Morrison (50) was found lying in Argyle Street, Glasgow, at around 12.20am on Saturday.
Police later said a 25-year-old man had been arrested in connection with an alleged assault on a 50-year-old man in Argyle Street.
The former Liberal Democrat councillor, who lived in Milngavie, was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary, where he later died.
A police spokesman said: “A post-mortem examination has been carried out.
“However, it has proved inconclusive and the exact cause of death has yet to be established.
“Police inquiries so far have identified that Mr Morrison was assaulted prior to his death.”
