Brave singer Julie Fowlis in running for an Oscar

A GAELIC singer has been nominated for a best song Oscar.

Julie Fowlis, from North Uist, sings Touch the Sky on the feature track of the Disney Pixar film Brave, set in the Scottish Highlands.

Her song has made it on to a long-list of seven for best song at the awards ceremony held at the end of February in Los Angeles.

Fowlis faces competition from Katie Perry, Jessie J, Scarlett Johansson and the screen version of the musical Les Miserables.

Fowlis also performed at the closing ceremony of the Ryder Cup in Chicago this year.
