History experts have been left blushing after getting the dates of some of Scotland’s most iconic events wrong.
The National Trust for Scotland was forced to make changes to its website promoting the 700th anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn next year.
A section charting the run-up to Robert the Bruce’s historic 1314 victory stated: “1312: The Scots capture Perth, Dumfries and Linlithgow.”
Unfortunately, it wasn’t until January 1313 that Bruce personally led a party across Perth castle moat and, a month later, took Dumfries.
Archivist at Linlithgow’s Annet House Museum, Willie Morrison said: “It is important to be accurate with history. It was an important time for Scotland.”
Dumfries Museum curator Siobhan Ratchford was more forgiving.
She added: “Obviously getting the date wrong is unfortunate. We all make mistakes.”
A spokeswoman for NTS admitted the error and confirmed that the site would be amended.
