A hooded attacker assaulted a young woman on a footpath as she carried her one-year-old child.
The 19-year-old victim was walking near Marmion Road in the Greenfaulds area of Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire, when a man grabbed from behind and pulled her back, causing her to fall to the ground.
She was carrying her young son in her arms at the time of the incident, at about 11.30am yesterday.
While the woman managed to protect the child as she fell, she suffered an injury to her face in the incident.
The man, whose intentions are not clear at this stage, then ran off as the woman fell.
Officers are appealing for information about the crime and have issued a description of the suspect.
He was about 6ft, slim and wearing a black hooded top and dark jeans.
Inspector Phil Rose, of Police Scotland, said: “It’s not clear why this man approached the woman and pulled her back, we don’t know if he intended to rob her or if his intention was to harm her.
“The footpath is well used by local people and at that time of the day there would have been people out and about.
“If you know who this man is or if you have any knowledge about him or the crime, please do get in touch with us.”
