Legislation that would lead to airguns being licensed is due to be voted on next month.
The Air Weapons and Licensing Bill is part of a long-running campaign by the Scottish Government to crack down on the misuse of air weapons.
It follows the death of two-year-old Andrew Morton who was shot in the head with an airgun in Glasgow 10 years ago. Drug addict Mark Bonini was convicted of his murder.
The bill, which was introduced by former Justice Minister Kenny MacAskill, received its second reading this week and is due to be voted on in the Scottish Parliament at the start of June.
It’s estimated there are half a million air weapons in Scotland.
