Police Scotland has been criticised for launching a Facebook page for Polish speakers the day after it emerged a missing couple were found in a crashed car – three days after it had first been reported.
Driver John Yuill, 28, is believed to have died upon impact.
His girlfriend Lamara Bell, 25, survived but is in a critical condition after lying next to her dead partner for 72 hours.
Police Scotland admitted on Wednesday night they had been notified about the accident in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The force issuedan appealabout the whereabouts of the missing couple through social mediasites such as Tayside Division’s Facebook page on Monday and issued a second on Tuesday.
There has been no update about the accident posted on their social media sites so far.
However, Police Scotlanddid launcha new Facebook page for Polish speakers on Thursday, prompting a wave of criticism online.
Alan Butler said: “Seriously, an accident was reported on Sunday on the M9 and you arrive days later to find the driver dead and his partner critical and you are spendin valuable resources on this? I’m speechless.”
Gary Percival posted a link to a newspaper story about the accident and said: “Could have tried to help this poor family instead of being on Facebook.”
Police Scotland say the Facebook page will allow them “to deliver a bespoke service to the Polish community in Scotland withan appropriate focus on issues, concerns and engagement which is of interest to them.”
