Staff at Scottish universities will strike again on Tuesday in an ongoing dispute over pay.
Four unions have called the one-day action, which will affect Abertay, Dundee, St Andrews and Stirling universities and see rallies held in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Picket lines will be set up from 7.30am and the unions expect lectures to be cancelled and buildings closed. They are protesting a 1% pay offer and claim members have seen their earnings fall by 13% in real terms in the last four years.
The strike follows a walk-out on October 31 and the collapse of talks last week with the Universities and Colleges Employers Association (UCEA).
Dave Anderson, Scottish president of the University and College Union (UCU) said: “Staff in universities across Scotland are taking strike action to say enough is enough.
“They have seen their pay slashed in real terms since 2009 and this year’s miserly pay offer, at a time of rising bills, was the straw that broke the camel’s back.
“Staff love their jobs, but their goodwill cannot continue to be taken for granted.
“Nobody wants to take strike action and lose a day’s pay, but we feel we have been left with no alternative.”
Richard Cook, president of the students’ association at Abertay University, said it was supporting the strike.
“We were for it the last time and we are for it this time. Our argument is if universities don’t value their staff how can they value their students?”
