ByThe Courier Reporter
Attempts are being made to rescue a pilot whale stranded in shallow water.
A member of the public spotted an animal 12 to 15ft-long in water in the Silverknowes area of Edinburgh, to the east of Cramond Island in the Firth of Forth, and alerted coastguards at about 9.30am on Tuesday.
The Scottish SPCA, coastguard crew and the British Divers Marine Life Rescue are involved in the rescue attempt.
A vet is due to assess the condition of the whale which is said to be swimming in waist-deep water close to the shore.
