11-year-old girl dies after falling ill in Kincraig

An 11-year-old girl has died suddenly after falling ill.

Police said they are investigating the unexplained death in the village of Kincraig, near Aviemore in the Highlands.

Emergency services were called when the child was found unconscious after feeling unwell at around 2.30am.

The girl is understood to have been with an organised group in the village when she was found.

Attempts were made to resuscitate the girl and she was later pronounced dead at Raigmore Hospital.

Police said the death is unexplained and that a post-mortem examination will be carried out.

Her next of kin have been informed.
