A Tayside home education group has told parents: Don’t be afraid to take your children out of school.
The Schoolhouse Home Education Association’s expansion has been a rapid one and around 150 children were last year home-schooled in Tayside and Fife.
Although by law children have to receive full-time education until the age of 17, this does not have to be at school and can be done legally at home.
In Angus there were 24 pupils receiving home-based education last year; 14 in Dundee; 54 in Fife and 51 in Perth and Kinross.
Group founder Alison Preuss said: “There is a growing cohort of families who turn to home education as a result of school related problems such as bullying or unmet additional support needs and we have also seen an increase in interest from parents who are dissatisfied with recent changes to the Scottish school curriculum.”
