Two staff members at a sports complex have been suspended after a young footballer collapsed and died during a match.
Tynecastle FC player Jamie Skinner, 13, died suddenly at Saughton sports complex in Edinburgh last month.
Operators Edinburgh Leisure said two employees had been suspended as an investigation is carried out into the centre’s emergency response.
Director of operations Graeme Gardiner said: “The safety of Edinburgh Leisure customers is of paramount importance and we have emergency operation plans in place in the event of any major accident.
“Following the tragic incident at Saughton sports complex, we have taken action to ascertain if the emergency operation plan was carried out in accordance with our standards.
“We have concluded that the most appropriate action at this time is to suspend the two members of staff who were on duty, pending further investigation.
“Edinburgh Leisure is continuing to co-operate fully with police with their investigation into this as-yet unexplained and tragic incident.”
Tynecastle FC was playing Spartans FC when Jamie collapsed on the Astro pitch at the complex on December 22. The teenager previously played for Hearts’ under-14 squad.
His club said he “undoubtedly would have had a bright future in the game”.
