Two kayakers had a lucky escape after capsizing in stormy conditions, according to the coastguard.
The men were rescued on the Braes peninsula on Skye last night after managing to reach shore.
The mother of one of the kayakers called 999 when the pair failed to reach the Braes on a trip from Raasay.
Stornoway Coastguard sent an RNLI lifeboat crew from Portree who located the men. They were taken to Broadford Hospital suffering from the effects of the cold.
Coastguard watch manager Martin Collins said: “These kayakers have been very lucky.
“We had wintry squalls across the area with winds gusting to over 40mph at times, and if they hadn’t made someone aware of their plans they could have been exposed to the elements for a lot longer.
“If you are heading out to sea in a kayak the coastguard recommends that you check the weather forecast and tidal conditions before you head out, wear a buoyancy aid and carry distress flares are in date and stowed where you can reach them.
“For remote locations carrying a personal locator beacon is highly recommended.”
