Six cars used to transport Scottish Government ministers around the country have been caught speeding in the last three years, official figures show.
The most recent incident on June 5 this year involved a ministerial car speeding on the A9, one of Scotland’s most dangerous roads and the subject of a £3 billion Scottish Government project to upgrade the route to dual carriageway and cut deaths.
Other speeding fines were issued on the A82 and A90 last year, a road in Edinburgh in 2011 and two further incidents which involved on-the-spot fines, where full details were not recorded by the government.
A Scottish Government spokesman said: “Drivers with the Government Car Service (GCS) take road safety very seriously.
“Each driver receives advanced training from both Police Scotland and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents.
“During the three-year period covered here, GCS drivers undertook more than 27,000 journeys – indicating that such incidences are very rare.
“These speeding fines were dealt with on an individual basis, depending on the circumstances, including discussion between the driver and their line manager. No drivers have been banned.”
The figures were released in a written response to a parliamentary question by Conservative north east Scotland MSP Nanette Milne.
