The woman in her 70s was walking with a friend in Palmerston Place in the west of the city last night when she was hit by a small van. Lothian and Borders Police have appealed for witnesses to the incident at around 8.30pm. The woman was a foreign visitor on holiday in Edinburgh, the force said, but released no further details. Her companion and the driver of the van were not injured. The road was closed as an investigation was carried out.
