Police officers across Scotland have been told they cannot book any leave during next year’s Commonwealth Games.
The games take place from July 23 to August 3 and Police Scotland is responsible for all security.
All officers and control room staff have been told they are unable to book leave in the weeks leading up to the games and during the competition itself.
The Scottish Police Federation accepted the move as “pragmatic” but hopes the ban is lifted once all security arrangements have been put in place.
“It is a fairly pragmatic approach they don’t want officers booking holidays and then having to cancel them,” said David Hamilton, chairman of the police federation’s north area.
He added, however, that many officers are unhappy about the demands on their time during summer months.
“It is another year where they have had holidays interrupted. We’ve had G8 this year, the London Olympics and before that the London riots,” he said.
