The Courier joined the Leuchars-based Royal Scots Dragoon Guards at Warcop in Cumbria for the regiment’s first live fire range package since being based back to the UK from Germany. It comes as the regiment prepares for possible deployment overseas. Michael Alexander reports.
It was not a baaad day’s work for soldiers from the Leuchars-based Royal Scots Dragoon Guards (SCOTS DG) when they rescued a stricken sheep.
The men were taking a break from a live firing exercise at the Warcop firing ranges in Cumbria this week when they freed the farm animal which had become entangled in a barbed wire fence.
The drama was captured on video by Forces TV video journalist Hannah King, who said: “It just goes to show that soldiering is not all about shooting!”
The footage has since gone viral on social media.
One ex-soldier joked: “Maybe there would have been a different outcome if the boys had been on survival training!”
Around 370 members of the SCOTS DG have been on exercise at Warcop for the past fortnight.
