A wannabe Marty McFly from the Mearns left his DeLorean at home when he jetted off on holiday to celebrate Back to the Future’s seminal moment.
Paul Mackie from Stonehaven made sure he packed the sequel to the famous 1980s flick in his case as he headed for Spain this week and tonight will stage a showing of the movie to coincide with the “arrival” of its main character.
Today marks the date that the young McFly, played by Michael J Fox, would have blasted 30 years into the future to help his children.
But for fanatic Paul, who owns a real version of the famous DeLorean time machine, the day means more than most.
He said: “I bought the car because I thought it was cool but only realised since I got it what a massive following it has with Back to the Future fans.
“Most people of a certain age know what a DeLorean is but not everyone has been up so close and personal with the real thing.

“It’s good fun to drive but I haven’t been brave enough to get it up to the magical speed of 88 yet.
“We’ll be having a mini Back to the Future themed night over here in Spain to celebrate the day.
“It’s a brilliant, unique film. There’s nothing like it and I don’t think there will ever be another film like it.”
Paul, 43, runs FirstDrive Cars in Stonehaven and has owned the DeLorean for the past two years.
The motor has been on display at the Grampian Museum of Transport, but will be unleashed today at Haddo House, Ellon, for a fundraising event.

Meanwhile, Charlie Moore, 33, a comic book shop worker from Glasgow, claims he has seen the different films in the trilogy several hundred times.
The super-fan has spent thousands on memorabilia from the trilogy including Marty McFly’s baseball cap and Doc Brown’s glasses.
An iconic scene from the first film has been recreated in the city that built the famous DeLorean cars Belfast.
Doc Brown’s legendary zip line ride from the clock tower of the fictional town Hill Valley was staged in the city to mark Back to the Future Day.
