Scottish Government’s independence white paper release plans opposed

The Scottish Government’s launch of its crucial white paper on independence would “never” be allowed in Westminster, the Secretary of State for Scotland has claimed.
Alistair Carmichael told The Courier ministers had many questions to answer in the document, which is expected to top over 500 pages setting out the vision for a Yes vote next September, particularly on the currency, pensions and the cost of an independent Scotland.
It will be launched in Glasgow next Tuesday, with a ministerial statement at Holyrood the same day and a debate on Wednesday.
That was formally opposed by opposition members on Wednesday night forcing a rare vote on parliamentary business but the plans will go ahead after the SNP used their majority to force it through.
A Scottish Government spokesperson said ministers were looking forward to taking their case for independence outlined in the white paper to the Scottish people in the weeks and months ahead.
