Police are warning drivers they are risking their lives by ignoring flood warnings.
Vehicles became trapped in flood water across Tayside caused by nearly 12 hours of rain. Officers criticised motorists who ignored flood signs and became trapped in water. They said they are dicing with their own lives and those who have to rescue them.
The Alyth, Coupar Angus and Meigle areas were badly hit. In Angus, an illegal Travellers’ site, at the centre of a planning dispute, was flooded.
The entrance to the site near St Cyrus was under water as were roads leading to it.
The Met Office warned that weather conditions are likely to deteriorate today. It is expected to get colder and drivers have been alerted to the risk of icy roads today.
Most at risk are parts of central and eastern Scotland which could also see some snow.
On Friday, a band of heavy rain will move in to the area which, combined with possible snow and gales, is expected to give some very poor travelling conditions.
At lower levels there is a risk of localised flooding. Strathmore, Scone, Dunning and Forteviot have also been badly affected by the heavy rain.
Last night Sepa had 10 flood warnings in place for Tayside.
