A college has been evacuated after a burst water main caused flooding in Glasgow city centre.
Fire crews were called to the scene in the Cowcaddens area at about 9.15am on Thursday.
Scottish Water warned that customers in the area may experience loss of water supply, low pressure and discoloured water.
It said that engineers would be at the scene at New City Road to carry out repairs and restore supplies as soon as possible.
Glasgow Kelvin College, formerly known as Stow College, was evacuated along with a few other buildings in the area.
A statement on its website said: “Due to problems with a water main at Cowcaddens, the college’s City Campus building at Shamrock Street has experienced flooding and, in the interests of safety, will be closed Thursday 9th and Friday 10th January 2014.”
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said that two pumping appliances were at the scene, including one used for salvage purposes.
The burst water main is not affecting the city’s subway which is running as normal. Strathclyde Passenger Transport (SPT) said it was monitoring the situation.
