Five of Scotland’s eight fire control rooms are set to be closed following the creation of a single Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
At a meeting in Aberdeen the national fire service’s board held back from deciding on the locations of all three control rooms under the new framework.
One will be at Johnstone in Renfrewshire and the two others will be chosen from the list of Inverness, Aberdeen, Dundee and Edinburgh.
A report to board members recommended that the two others should be Dundee and Edinburgh but this recommendation was defeated by 6 votes to five to allow more consultation.
The control room at Thornton in Fife is one of the five that will close.
