Tayside is set for a tropical Christmas with predictions of record-breaking temperatures hotter than in parts of Spain.
Initially a white Christmas was forecasted, but now bookmakers have cut odds on the hottest December 25 for 160 years.
Sub-tropical air has travelled 5,000 miles from near the Caribbean and arrives on Wednesday to start an out-of-season heatwave, which could see temperatures reach 16C on Christmas Day.
Forecaster Brian Gaze of The Weather Outlook said: “Exceptionally mild temperatures are from a long-fetch south-westerly feed.
“Christmas Day looks mild.”
Bookmakers Ladbrokes cut odds on Christmas Day being the hottest ever from 10/1 to 3/1.
Spokeswoman Jessica Bridge said: “It looks like sunglasses rather than snowmen as Christmas Day temperatures soar well into the teens.”
