Changes aimed at improving treatments for drug addicts have been announced by the Scottish Government.
Community Safety Minister Roseanna Cunningham said she hoped drug users and their families would “notice real improvements” in the help they were given.
A new set of quality principles for drug treatment will be developed so addicts know what to expect when they ask for help.
A framework will also be developed to improve the quality of all aspects of drugs services.
Ms Cunningham announced the changes as Holyrood debated a report on the practice of prescribing heroin substitutes such as methadone to addicts.
The document concluded methadone was an effective treatment and should continue to be used, while also calling for action to tackle social inequality.
