New weekly news magazine The Stooshie to be launched

Dundee-based publisher DC Thomson is to produce a new magazine title, The Stooshie.

The weekly magazine will launch on Friday May 16.

The Stooshie will provide readers with “Scotland in 7 days”, offering the top Scottish news, views and opinions from across the week.

It will also feature a regular weekly column from comedian and BBC Scotland presenter Fred MacAulay.

The Stooshie editor-in-chief Richard Neville said: “This year is going to be an extraordinary news year for Scotland.

“The Stooshie’s editorial team will work hard to bring readers the week’s top stories drawing on a range of coverage from the country’s newspapers, magazines and leading websites.”

Regular features will include Seven by Seven, which answers seven key questions on issues that matter to readers, The Main Event, a rundown of the week’s biggest stories presented in bite-sized chunks, Around Scotland, featuring quirky stories from Lerwick to Lockerbie plus the big sporting and political stories from across the week.

The magazine will also include the latest on Scottish arts, food and drink, books, travel and property.

Mr Neville added: “The Stooshie taps into the Scottish appetite for debate and presents readers with a succinct summary of the week’s top stories.

“It gives readers an easily digestible taste of what is causing a stooshie in Scotland.”

DC Thomson chief executive officer Ellis Watson said: “Whilst I am excited about the idea and the initiative, I am really excited about the timing with the vote for independence, Commonwealth Games, Ryder Cup and all the other extraordinary and dynamic events going on right now, there has never been a better time for The Stooshie.”

Issue zero will be distributed free of charge on Friday May 16. The first issue will go on sale Friday May 23, priced at £2.50.
