An elderly mwoman has died on the same road that her daughter was knocked down on almost 29 years ago.
Shirley Masson, 80, was struck by a car on the A96 at Alves Woods, between Forres and Elgin in Moray, at about 5.45pm on Sunday.
Her daughter Valerie died in similar circumstances at the same place when she was 14 almost 29 years ago, police said.
Mrs Masson died at the scene. The driver of the black Vauxhall Vectra car involved in the collision was unhurt.
Officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash and are appealing for witnesses.
They are keen to speak to the driver of a car travelling on the A96 towards Elgin at that time and may have had to swerve to avoid a heavily braking car.
