There was a smart start to the new term at Viewforth High School this week.
In many homes pupils were donning high school uniforms for the first time.
And the Kirkcaldy school has helped pupils to be smartly turned out.
Rector Adrian Watt said: “It was wonderful to see the new pupils taking a pride in the fact that they had started Viewforth. It was also good to see all of our senior pupils resplendent in their new school blazers.”
Viewforth’s drive to smarten up appearance mirrors a move in schools across Scotland to return to the more traditional forms of school dress. According to Mr Watt, this was much appreciated by parents.
“When I met with the senior school parents at re-enrolment interviews in the summer, all were keen to tell me about the standards that applied when they were at school and were keen for their youngsters to do the same,” he said.
Mr Watt said Viewforth was keen to “put their money where their mouths are” to not only present new first-year pupils with shirts and ties, but also supply blazers to senior pupils at heavily subsidised costs.
The money came from fundraising events organised earlier in the year in conjunction with the parent council.
Mr Watt added, “The uniform improvements are yet another example where parents, pupils and the school have worked together to raise standards.
“Combined with the fact that the summer’s exam results were outstanding and that near record numbers are entering first year, I believe that the school community has much to be proud of.”
