The winner of the world’s biggest piping competition has been announced.
For the third consecutive year Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band from Northern Ireland has been crowned World Pipe Band Champions.
Runner-up was Boghall and Bathgate Caledonia and in third place was Scottish Power. Also celebrating were the pipers and drummers of the 6th/8th Dundee Boys’ Brigade, who came a superb second in their Grade 4b category.
Around 8,000 pipers and drummers, making up 225 bands, performed in front of crowds of 30,000 people across the weekend.
This is the first time the annual gathering has been held over two days at its familiar home of Glasgow Green.
Ian Embelton, chief executive of the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association, said: “Every year the standard of competition is so high but this year we have seen something extra special.
“The two-day event allows us to drive the already very high standard to new heights and we’ll look forward to welcoming bands back to Glasgow Green next year for another unforgettable experience.”
The championships affectionately known as “the Worlds” have been associated with Glasgow for more than 60 years.
