Efforts to save Abergeldie Castle from collapsing into river

Aberdeenshire Council sent engineers to assess stricken Abergeldie Castle in a bid to save the 450-year-old tower house near Ballater from collapsing into the River Dee.
More of the muddy bank under one corner of the 16th century A-listed building appeared to have crumbled in the early hours of Tuesday morning putting the home of Baron Abergeldie precariously close to danger.
A spokesman for the local authority said: “Council engineers are visiting the site to establish what action might be taken to help protect the building from being claimed by the river.”
