A man escaped two armed robbers by climbing down from his veranda when they broke into his flat.
The 33-year-old was in his second-floor flat in Rannoch Drive, Renfrew, when the two men, one believed to be carrying a gun, forced their way into the property at about 6.15pm on Thursday.
The men threatened him but he ran out to his veranda and lowered himself down two floors to the street and escaped uninjured, police said.
The two robbers took a three-figure sum of money and some personal items from the flat and ran off on foot to Inchinnan Road.
Both men are white and had local accents, according to police. The man carrying the gun was about 6ft and was wearing a balaclava and a dark padded waterproof jacket.
The other man police are tracing is around 5ft 4in and was wearing a light blue hooded top.
As they were running across Inchinnan Road, the man wearing the balaclava was hit by a passing silver Honda Jazz car, but jumped up and ran off.
The men were last seen heading towards North Lodge Road in the town.
Detective Inspector Julie Henry said: “This was a particularly harrowing experience for the victim and we have yet to establish a motive.
“Inchinnan Road was very busy at that time of the evening and I have no doubt that many motorists would have seen the suspect being struck by the car.
“I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident or saw the suspects at or near the flat to come forward.”
