Festival-goers in Edinburgh are being urged to keep their valuables out of sight.
More than one million people are expected to attend various festivals in the city in August and police are urging them to beware of pickpockets and other thieves.
Posters and leaflets, translated into various languages, advise visitors to keep possessions such as cameras, music players and tablet devices hidden from view.
It is part of Operation Assure, a police campaign against criminal activity during the festival period.
Inspector Gary Dickson said: “Firstly, I would like to reassure all of those visiting Edinburgh that the city is a very safe place. However, like any busy area, thieves will look to capitalise on any opportunity that presents itself.
“As such, officers will be out on foot and bicycle patrols during the festival to speak with the public and distribute crime-prevention leaflets which provide guidance on how to protect their belongings.
“These leaflets are translated into the languages of those who most frequently visit Edinburgh and the posters can be viewed at various areas within the city centre to maximise awareness of this issue.”
