A 14-year-old cyclist has been killed in a collision with a car in Aberdeenshire.
The boy was travelling with five or six other cyclists on the A975 Newburgh to Cruden Bay road when the accident happened at around 6pm on Wednesday, Police Scotland said.
He was airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary but died of his injuries. The 59-year-old driver of the Volvo involved in the crash was not hurt.
Police have appealed for witnesses to the collision at the A975’s junction with the B9003 to Collieston.
Inspector Ewan Innes from Aberdeenshire and Moray division road policing unit said: “Our thoughts and condolences go out to the boy’s family and friends at this very distressing time.
“Our inquiries are at an early stage and at this time it is too early to speculate as to the cause of the collision.
“The boy was in a group of five or six pedal cyclists who were travelling from Collieston to the Ellon area, and I would ask that anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who has any information relating to this collision to get in touch with us.”
