A female dog walker has been assaulted in the woods by a hooded attacker in North Berwick.
The 44-year-old woman was walking her spaniel puppy in a wooded area near Tantallon Road at around 6.30am this morning when a man approached her and knocked her to the ground.
A struggle ensued and the woman fought him off and then fled towards North Berwick Rugby Club.
She flagged down two men in a small silver car who took her home, where she contacted police.
Police have asked the men to come forward to assist them with their inquiries, along with anyone else who may have information.
The attacker is white and around 5ft 10in. He had an unshaven complexion and was wearing a black tracksuit with the hood up.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “The woman was left extremely distressed as a result of this incident and we are keen to trace anyone who was in the Tantallon Road area on Friday morning and remembers seeing anything suspicious.
“We are still trying to establish the full circumstances surrounding this attack and would urge the occupants of the silver vehicle, who assisted the woman, to contact police immediately.
“Similarly, anyone with any other information relevant to this investigation is also asked to come forward.”
Police said they are “keeping an open mind” regarding the motive for the attack as their inquiries continue.
