Police have launched a murder inquiry after a man was found dead in a car park following a violent attack.
The body of Mark Donnelly, 27, was discovered in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire, on Sunday morning. The victim from Motherwell is thought to have spent Saturday in the town centre and was seen in nearby Bellshill at 5pm.
Police are trying to piece together his last movements before he was found in the car park off Coatbridge’s Hozier Street at around 6.30am on Sunday.
Detective Chief Inspector Kenny Graham said: “A young man has died as a result of a violent assault.
“I am appealing to anyone who may have seen him during the day or anyone who knew his whereabouts to get in touch with us.
“Mark’s family has been left devastated by what has happened and I would ask anyone who knew him, who has not yet spoken to the police, to contact us.
“Any information or knowledge could prove vital in helping us establish how this young man died and help us trace whoever is responsible.”
