The family of Karen Buckley have described their ‘heartbreak’ after confirmation that a body found at a farm was that of the Irish student.
The 24-year-old went missing after leaving Glasgow’s Sanctuary nightclub on Sunday morning.
In a statement read by Detective Superintendent Jim Kerr, her father John said the family were “absolutely heartbroken” by the news that remains found on farmland outside the city are that of their only daughter.
The statement said: “Marian and I, together with our sons Brendan, Kieran, and Damian are absolutely heartbroken.
“Karen was our only daughter, cherished by her family and loved by her friends.
“She was an outgoing girl who travelled the world, where she met lots of people and thoroughly enjoyed her life.We will miss her terribly.”
A 21-year-old man is to appear in court in connection with Karen’s death.
A four-day search led police to High Craigton Farm on the north-western outskirts of the city where human remains were recovered last night.
A man who had previously been detained was arrested and will appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Friday.
Miss Buckley moved to Scotland in February and was a first-year occupational therapy student at Glasgow Caledonian University.
Ireland’s minister for foreign affairs Charlie Flanagan said Ireland’s thoughts and prayers were with her parents John and Marian.
Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said: “My thoughts today are very much with the family and friends of Karen Buckley.”
