The full line-up for Edinburgh’s Hogmanay has been announced by organisers who said they expect 150,000 visitors to the city for the three-day celebrations.
Biffy Clyro has already been revealed as the headline act for the sold-out Concert in the Gardens, with Idlewild and Honeyblood completing the stage’s all-Scottish line-up.
Full details of the festival, including the Hogmanay street party, were unveiled in Edinburgh as bosses said they are expecting another sell-out event.
Celebrations will begin on December 30 with the annual torchlight procession in which 10,000 torchbearers wind their way through the city.
Street party revellers will see additional stages and screens this year, with the Waverley Stage hosting Maximo Park.
The annual “Keilidh” will move into its own exclusive outdoor arena on the Royal Mile to become the Old Town Ceilidh, where an attempt to break the world record for the longest Strip The Willow will be made.
The traditional midnight fireworks from the ramparts of Edinburgh Castle will be preceded by countdown displays on the hour from 9pm.
On January 1, more than 1,000 people in fancy dress will start their new year with the Loony Dook as they take a dip in the Forth at South Queensferry.
Organisers said the tens of thousands of visitors to Scotland’s capital would bring an estimated economic benefit of more than £40 million.
Culture Secretary Fiona Hyslop, said: “We are the home of Hogmanay and there is nowhere in the world that celebrates New Year like the Scots.
“As the bells strike midnight, the eyes of the world turn to Edinburgh and Scotland, and I warmly invite people from near and far to visit and join the celebrations.
“Attracting over 150,000 visitors – and with many thousands more watching from home – Edinburgh’s Hogmanay is a key event within Scotland’s Winter Festivals and our world-leading programme of festivals.”
