Sky falls in on Scottish Parliament as window pane comes loose
ByThe Courier Reporter
A window from the Scottish Parliament plummeted from the roof of the five-storey block and smashed across a concourse on Wednesday.
The skylight fell from the ministerial tower as MSPs finished their work for the day.
Holyrood’s Canongate entrance was last night sealed off to anyone wanting to go in or out of the £410 million building.
A member of the parliament’s security team stood outside the passholders’ gate one of two available to workers turning people away from the street.
A sign was also attached to the security doors.
It read: “This entrance is locked. Please use entrance at Queensberry House until further notice.”
However, the main public entrance was still open for use and visitors continued to file in and out.
A spokeswoman for the parliament said the cause of the window’s dislodging was still unknown as teams had been working on clearing the debris and securing the skylight.
