Organ donation in Scotland a special Courier series
ByStefan Morkis
More Scots than ever before have signed up to the Organ Donor Register but it’s still not enough.
More than 40% of the population have agreed to donate their liver, kidneys or even heart in the event of their death but you are still more likely to require a transplant than donate an organ after your death.
This week, in a special two-part series starting on Tuesday, The Courier speaks to people whose lives have been transformed by a transplant and those who have made the difficult decision to allow organs to be retrieved from a loved one.
We also explore why Scotland’s ageing population is making the need for more donors ever more urgent and why it is vital potential donors share their wishes with their family.
