Extensive police inquiries are continuing after a father was shot dead and his son wounded at a farm.
Peter Thompson, the owner of Meadowhead Farm at Auldhouse, near East Kilbride in South Lanarkshire, was found dead on Tuesday morning. The 59-year-old’s son John is being treated in hospital for injuries to his leg.
Firearms officers searched the area and a third man, Robert McCormick, 53, was found dead in a vehicle nearby. Police say they are not looking for anyone in connection with the shootings.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Extensive inquiries are ongoing into the circumstances which led to the incident.”
Condolences were posted on Meadowhead Farm’s Facebook page.
The farm is home to a riding school and almost 100 messages were posted on the page which informed customers that all lessons and treks are cancelled until further notice.
Lee Caroline Mcgregor wrote: “Shocking! thoughts are with you all at this sad time, so sorry,” and Shirley Orr posted: “Thinking of yous at this truly devastating time. Wishing JT a speedy recovery. Rest in peace Peter.”
Officers were called at around 8.10am. Mr Thompson senior was found in the grounds and his 36-year-old son was found in Langlands Road.
Superintendent Elaine Ferguson said: “We are not looking for anybody else in relation to this incident and all the firearms are contained to that farm and there is no danger to the public.’
“The scene has now been handed over to the CID officers.”
Police said they were investigating a “linked” incident in the Clarkston area of East Renfrewshire. Inquiries have established that Mr McCormick had a firearms licence. None of the men were known to police.
A floral tribute left at the scene read: “RIP Peter. A true gentleman. You will be sadly missed.”
