An elderly disabled man has been attacked with a hammer in a “horrifying attack”.
The 72-year-old was walking in Fastnet Street, Cranhill, Glasgow at around 10.30pm on Saturday when two men approached him and demanded money.
They then hit him on the head with a hammer, Strathclyde Police said. A man and a woman intervened and the men ran off.
The elderly man was able to go home and he contacted the police the next day. He was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary to get his head injury treated and was later released.
Officers are appealing for the people who intervened in the attack to contact them.
Detective Inspector Ian Hylands said: “This was a horrifying attack on an elderly, disabled man who was left with a nasty head injury. We urgently need to trace the individuals involved in this attack as the level of violence directed to this elderly man was simply unimaginable.
“Our inquiries have revealed that whilst the man was being attacked, a man and woman intervened. I would like to trace them as they may have vital information which could assist with our inquiry.”
The attackers are both white and around 20-years-old. One is 6ft, has a gaunt appearance and was wearing a grey tracksuit and white trainers. He was riding a black mountain bike.
The second man is 5ft 8in and stocky. He was wearing a black hooded top and blue jeans. Anyone with any information can call police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
