A 43-year-old man whose body was discovered near a hospital car park died from “significant injuries”, according to police.
The man’s body was discovered in bushes within the grounds of the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, just off Old Dalkeith Road, at about 2.45pm on Sunday.
He has been identified but his next of kin have yet to be informed.
Officers investigating the death are treating it as suspicious due to the injuries the man sustained and are appealing for information about a group who may have been in his company over the weekend.
Investigations so far suggest the man was one of a group of four men – possibly of Eastern European origin – who got off a bus in Old Dalkeith Road on Friday night.
CCTV footage shows the man got off the number 33 Lothian Buses service with the group near Little France Crescent about 10pm on April 5. Officers want to speak to anyone who may have been in the area at the time and who may have seen this group.
Detective Chief Inspector David McLaren said: “Our investigations are continuing to focus on how the man sustained these injuries and we are working to establish what happened after the group of men got off the bus.
“We know there were a number of people coming and going around the area of the hospital on Friday night, so we are appealing for anyone who might have been heading to or from work at the ERI about 10pm on Friday night to get in touch with us if they happen to remember seeing this group of men.
“We also continue to appeal for anyone who may have any information regarding this matter, to contact us on 101, or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
