Several hundred new students were welcomed to Dundee on Monday in what Dundee University principal Pete Downes said is his favourite time of the year.
More than 2,000 freshers from around the world arrived in the city over the last few days for Welcome Week 2012, and they were invited to the Caird Hall for their formal arrival greeting.
The new undergraduates were also addressed by Dundee University chaplain, the Reverend Dr Fiona Douglas, and Lord Provost Bob Duncan.
”This is the first time away from home for many of our new students and we will do everything we can to make it as smooth a transition as possible,” said Joan Muszynski from the welcome team.
A small army of staff and students help the new arrivals settle.
Dundee University was voted number one in the UK by students in the 2012 Times Higher Education Student Experience.
