The number of people living past 100 has rocketed by 70% in the last decade, according to new statistics.
Figures in a report released by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) showed more than 7,500 people aged above 100 celebrated birthdays with a card from the Queen this year.
According to the Office for National Statistics around 13,780 people are currently aged 100 or more in the UK, compared with 8,060 in 2003.
Recent estimates show that of the 797,000 babies less than one year old living in the UK in 2013, 123,000 boys and 151,000 girls are expected to live to 100.
