Angus Council chief executive Richard Stiff has paid tribute to the success of the county’s exam candidates.
The SQA results arrived on the doormats of almost 160,000 students across the country on Thursday, with record numbers passing their Highers.
But around 29,000 who had signed up to get their grades by text already knew what they had achieved after a mistake at the exam body.
The pass rate for Highers was 75.2%, up 0.5% on last year.
The Standard Grade pass rate remained at 98.5% and the Advanced Higher rate was 79.3%, up 1.8% on last year.
Slightly fewer pupils sat exams this year, down 101 from 160,745 to 159,744.’Massive well done’Mr Stiff said, “Celebrating success is vital.
“There was quite a bit of success for Angus students last week as exam results came out for some a day early not as expected.”
He added, “Mike Russell, cabinet secretary for education, was right when he told the press that the exams aren’t getting any easier.
“The success of all our exam candidates this year is indeed down to their hard work, and the brilliant support and guidance of their teachers and school support staff.
“And of course back up from mums, dads and carers, the value of which to the learning process cannot be underestimated.”
Mr Stiff said, “A massive well done and congratulations to every Angus student who got their results last week.”
