Senior pupils from Grove Academy in Broughty Ferry are about to swap the classroom for an African adventure.

Four S5 students and two teachers are bound for Kenya at the end of this month.

They will spend two weeks at their partner school in Meru where they will take part in lessons as well as learn about the local culture and traditions.

Geography principal teacher Marjorie Kerr set up the partnership with the Kenyan school in 2006. She says the visit marks the first time pupils from Grove Academy have visited.

”It’s a tremendous experience for the pupils which was the aim when the exchange project when it was set up,” said Mrs Kerr.

”Kenya is a topic that we teach in geography and it is a country I have visited and love.”

Mrs Kerr will be joined by acting senior depute Fiona McIntosh.

While in Kenya they will shadow teachers, as well as give classes in a bid to help strengthen the partnership.

A reciprocal visit is planned for next August when four boys from will visit Grove Academy along with their principal and an English teacher.

They will be home hosted by the pupils who have completed the first leg of the visit.
