A father has been shot dead and his son wounded in a shooting incident in which another man died.

Emergency services were called to Meadowhead Farm at Auldhouse, near East Kilbride in South Lanarkshire, at about 8.10am.

A police spokesman said officers found the bodies of two men, aged 59 and 53. A 36-year-old man is being treated in hospital for leg wounds. Neither of the dead men has yet been named by police.

Police say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident and no danger is posed to the public.

Superintendent Elaine Ferguson said: “At ten past eight this morning Police Scotland received a call from ambulance control. They had had a report of a male having been shot in Meadowhead Farm in the East Kilbride area.

“Specialist firearms resources attended, backed up by local officers and we can confirm that a male aged 59 and a male aged 53 have been fatally injured.

“A 36-year-old man is currently in hospital being treated. We can confirm that the 59-year-old and the 36-year-old are father and son.

“The incident happened within the farm area.”

The 59-year-old man was found with fatal injuries within the farm, while the 36-year-old was found in Langlands Road with injuries to his leg, police said.

Specialist firearms officers searched the area and the 53-year-old man was found nearby in a vehicle with fatal injuries.

Ms Ferguson added: “When we were dealing with this incident we received information that led us to the Clarkston area. We deployed further resources and a male is now a witness in relation to the first incident although he wasn’t at the farm at the time.

“We are not looking for anybody else in relation to this incident and all the firearms are contained to that farm and there is no danger to the public.”

Ms Ferguson added: “The scene has now been handed over to the CID officers. They have attended there with a number of other specialist resources.”

Ms Ferguson said none of the men were known to police. The 53-year-old man who died had a firearms licence.

Some family members of the victims are aware of the incident, according to police, but they are yet to confirm that all have been notified.

A floral tribute left at the scene read: “RIP Peter. A true gentleman. You will be sadly missed.”

The owner of the farm was listed as Peter Thompson.

Meadowhead Farm is a licensed equestrian centre which offers lessons and treks.

A statement on the centre’s Facebook page reads: “All lessons and treks cancelled until further notice. Also no liveries permitted on to the yard until further notice.”
