The Queen has inspected troops from the Royal Scots Borderers as she officially took up residence at her summer retreat. A large crowd gathered and took photographs as the soldiers paraded through the gates of Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire. The Queen was welcomed by commanding officer Major Jules Kilpatrick and inspected the soldiers who make up the Ballater Guard during her stay. She met the regiment’s three-year-old Shetland pony mascot, Cruachan IV, which replaced his retired 23-year-old predecessor, Cruachan III.
